This course supports individuals to integrate purposeful physical activity conversations into everyday conversations. Making Every Contact Count (MECC) for Physical Activity aims to increase physical activity levels of the wider population. Physical activity can help prevent or reduce health inequalities such as heart disease, stroke, and other long-term health conditions in line with the NHS CORE20PLUS5 framework and national Physical Activity Strategy.
Aims of the Course
The module supports anyone who is not a physical activity specialist by supplying high quality and evidence based physical activity training that develops knowledge, skills and confidence to integrate relevant physical activity messages and interventions into everyday conversations. On completion you will have awareness of:
- The MECC approach and how this can be applied in your setting.
- What is meant by physical activity (including awareness of the latest Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines).
- How to deliver healthy lifestyle messages linked to physical activity, to encourage people to change their behaviour.
- Where suitable resources for signposting can be found.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at anybody interested in looking to support physical activity conversations in the workplace or community. It is particularly useful for workplace health champions, and those who are responsible for workplace health and wellbeing strategies. No previous knowledge is required in order to obtain the content of this course.
What do our learners think?
When learners were asked what the most useful thing that they took from the training was, they told us:
"Knowing what to say and how to say it in a 'nice' way! It's a difficult subject, or can be, so I liked all the suggestions around wording."
"To think about the open conversations more. To encourage more activity in my own life as well as those I support."
"The difference between physical activity and exercise and how every movement counts"
