Dame Judith Hackitt has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the 2025 Healthcare Infection Society Annual Conference, taking place on 17–18 June 2025 at Goodenough College, London.

This year’s conference will unite healthcare professionals and infection prevention experts under the theme, ‘Next Generation IPC’.

Insights from a Renowned Leader 

Dame Judith Hackitt is internationally recognised for her expertise in risk management, safety culture, and regulatory frameworks. Her distinguished career includes leadership role of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, which led to the development of the Hackitt Report. She is currently serving as the chair of the Office for Nuclear Regulation and was previously Chair of the Health and Safety Executive. Her keynote address will explore critical topics such as:

  • Embedding a safety-first culture in complex systems.
  • Risk-based approaches to designing and managing healthcare facilities.
  • Balancing regulation with innovation in healthcare settings.

Dame Judith Hackitt’s pivotal 2018 Hackitt Report emphasised the importance of ensuring that competent individuals interpret and apply safety regulations effectively. It also championed a shift from rigid, prescriptive rules toward a risk-based and outcome-focused approach to decision-making, embedding safety as a fundamental priority.
