RSPH is pleased to announce the renewal of its accreditation of Let’s Get Cooking, led by the Children’s Food Trust.
Let’s Get Cooking is the largest national network of healthy cooking clubs in the country which run in a variety of schools, Pupil Referral Units, Children’s Centres and charities. So far over 5,000 clubs have joined the network, reaching more than 2.5 million people.
Research from the Children’s Food Trust has shown that 9 out of 10 people who cook at a Let's Get Cooking club, repeat their new cooking skills at home and more than half of club members said they eat a healthier diet after joining a club, which helps to improve the diet of adults and children, a vital part of combating the obesity epidemic.
Let’s Get Cooking delivers cooking programmes, training and resources for partners including London 2012, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and primary care trusts across the country.
Maggie Sims MBE, senior manager at Let’s Get Cooking, said: “We teach people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities how to cook and how to pass on these skills to others, so it’s important that our demonstrator training course is designed and delivered to meet the needs of a very diverse audience.
“To be awarded accreditation for the fourth year running is a fantastic achievement that we feel really proud of. Knowing that we run training in such a way that meets RSPH’s high standards, is a great assurance that we are offering our clubs the best support and healthy eating advice we possibly can – and all in a safe environment.”
The RSPH’s accreditation scheme endorses training programmes that support health, hygiene and safety. The Let’s Get Cooking training programme has undergone an expert review, assessing how effectively it prepares trainees in cookery demonstration skills and in food safety, nutrition and health and safety.
RSPH chief executive, Professor Richard Parish, said: “This is the fourth year that the Let’s Get Cooking demonstrators’ training programme has achieved the RSPH accreditation. This shows a strong commitment from the Children’s Food Trust to the highest standards of training and support”.
