Shirley Cramer CBE, Chief Executive of RSPH, will feature on the BBC's Panorama programme, due to be broadcast on 10 December.
The programme will investigate ‘dark kitchens’, kitchens that operate out of shipping containers and similar constructions which are shared by chefs from a number of restaurants in order to prepare and cook food intended only for delivery by companies such as Deliveroo.
Problems associated with these kitchens, such as an absence of licensing, poor food safety and often a lack of allergen controls are highlighted by Shirley in the programme.
Dark kitchens were also recently cited in RSPH’s recent report Health on the High Street: Running on empty 2018 as they take business and employment away from the high street and, due to the lower business rates that they pay, result in a loss of income for local authorities.
